Sir Alex Birkin
On 11th July 1918 Alexander Russell Birkin purchased Hawksworth Manor House from Mrs Elizabeth Bradwell for £8,200. He was the grandson of Nottingham’s most successful lace manufacturer, Richard Birkin.
Bonsor
Alfred, Mabel & Kate Bonsor
Alfred Alfred Bonser and his sister Mabel Clifford Bonser lived at Bonsors Farm on Main Road together with their eldest sister Kate who was their housekeeper. Their parents John and Phoebe Bonser appear on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census records for Hawksworth. As a senior girl at Hawksworth School, Mabel Bonser became a monitress and then a pupil-teacher. After attending the Day Centre Miss Bonser became a supplementary teacher and, apart from a brief spell at Flintham, taught the Hawksworth infants all her life. Her brother Alfred Bonsor was a tenant farmer of the 22 acre farm. In 1949, while renting it from Mrs Lamin, Alfred Bonsor signed an agreement to sub-let the farm to the Manor House. Rumour has it that sometime around 1955 Alfred claimed his sister had forged his signature and got rid of the farm without his knowledge.

1842-1909
Born in Easthorpe Southwell 15th May 1842 to John Bradwell & Mary Eliza (nee Howard).
In 1864 Set up in business as an auctioneer and in 1866 Married Elizabeth Bramley in Nottingham.
In 1901 purchased Hawksworth Manor House on 12th October and moved there around 1903.
By 1902 the firm was known as JH Bradwell & Sons, auctioneers & valuers with premises at Portland Chambers, 1 Thurland Street Nottm, the Cattle Market, London Road Nottingham and at Southwell & Mansfield. Also at 4 PelhamTerrace The Park Nottm.
Died 27th Sept 1909 at Hawksworth Manor age 68 and the funeral was held 30th Sept 1909 at Hawksworth. His widow Elizabeth continued to live at Hawksworth until 1918. Their son John (Jack) Bradwell married Helen Howard of Hawksworth in 1911.

In 1933 Walter Gaze Cooper founded the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra, originally known as the Nottingham Conservatory of Music Orchestra and he was their conductor for over 40 years.
In later years, Walter Gaze Cooper moved to Hawksworth to be with family

- actress who changed her name to Greta Hagan
A story told in Hawksworth many years ago was that a pupil at the school, said to be the daughter of Mrs Hage the Hawksworth school teacher (1923-1934), Gertrude Hage pursued a glamorous career, transforming herself into Greta Hagan a film star. Unfortunately no other information can be found about Gertrude Hage.

Clara's father and grandfather had both been lace machine makers in Nottingham and France.
John & Clara's daughter Helen Howard married Donald Stubbs who was running the family business WB Stubbs of Hawksworth making machines and trailers.
